First, let me be clear:  I’m horrible at video games.  I love them, but I can’t play them to save my (virtual) life.  I’ve completed exactly one game, “Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions”, and that took me a year playing on the mode they reserve for toddlers.  At one point I played “Ocarina of Time” and actually did all right but eventually got stuck in the Water Temple and couldn’t get out.  Usually I just get stuck in a corner or under some stairs until someone quietly takes the controls away from me.

On the bright side, my inability to play video games is one of the things that my wife loves about me, so I’ve got that going for me.

All this to say that I was really excited about this project.  For one thing, it was the first specific commission I’ve done for a fundraiser, hosted by a co-worker, who IS good at video games, so I was excited to be able to be a part of gaming in some capacity.  For another, another co-worker and good friend had offered to put together patterns for me.  He’s already done several for me, but this is the first one I’ve actually completed and it turned out so great.

And lastly, my wife helped me pick out all the yarn and she cut all of it for me.  I don’t know what it is, but going to Jo-Ann Fabrics with my wife shopping for yarn for a project is about my favoritest activity.  I love that she’s supporting me in this random endeavor and I also love that she’s pretty much an expert at picking out the right colors.

I think this rug has taken me to the next level.
